A comparative study on the curriculum for the department of dental hygiene by educational system

Abstract
In this study aimed at comparing dental hygiene curriculums in twenty 3-year course of colleges and 4-year course of universities among 80 colleges in the nation. The subjects were randomly selected. The study investigated on college home pages. The number of schools studying on oral biology showed a similar result not only 3-year course but also
4-year course of colleges. There were large difference between 3-year course of colleges' credits (3.50 credits) and 4-year course of college's credits (2.65) on a dental form science. 2. 3-year course of colleges (95%) had more classes than 4-year colleges (40%) on dental hygiene practice and preventive dentistry. There were 3-year course of colleges (85%) had slightly less class than 4-year course of colleges (90%) on practicing of community oral hygienic subjects. Interestingly, only 25% 4-year course of colleges had the curriculums of the oral health administration science. 3. 70% of 3-year course of colleges had implant lectures, while only 15% of 4-year corse of colleges had the same lectures. There are a large difference between 3-year course of college (4.30) and 4-year course of college (7.00) on the credits of the clinical dental science. 4. 80% of 3-year course of colleges had pre-clinic practice, while 4-year course of colleges had only 35%. The most marked difference between two groups was the credits of clinical subject: 3-year course of colleges had 8.00 credits and 4-year course of colleges had 13.80 credits. On the other hand, 3-year course of colleges had 3.75 credits on practice of comprehensive dental hygiene, and 4-year course of colleges had 4.83 credits which were similar to that of 3-year course of college. The curriculums were organized for the national board examination. Also, well organized curriculums will encourage dental hygienists' abilities to work in various areas of oral health. The most important thing need to be changed is unifying the various name of curriculums among colleges.
